Pelago was founded to cherish cycling as a genuine mode of transport. We ride to deliver a breeze of fresh air to the urban gridlock, bringing joy and freedom to the daily journey. A good bicycle is the freedom to change place, a workout on the way to a meeting, a charge of energy on an early morning ride, a good reason to meet with friends. The object becomes a transparent vehicle for one’s self-expression, a beautiful tool to use.

Our Story
A Note from our founder…Before starting Thousand, I never wore a helmet, even though I was a longtime cyclist. They were too bulky, too inconvenient, and too futuristic-looking. But when I lost a friend to a fatal bike accident, I knew I had to change. Instead of settling for the “sci-fi” looking helmets on the market, I got to work designing one.We named our company "Thousand" as a goal of helping to save 1000 lives by making helmets people actually want to wear. Our name serves as a daily reminder of why we do what we do. Helping our community opt in to safety is why we started Thousand. We launched on Kickstarter in 2015, and we’re still grateful for each and every order that we ship, because it means another rider is choosing to be safe by wearing a helmet. Every time a member of our community writes to us, letting us know their helmet kept them safe in an accident, we’re inspired to do even more and keep more riders safe on the road.– Gloria Hwang, Founder

All of our components such as a low-maintenance Gates Carbon Drive, a high-quality aluminium frame and stainless steel parts are designed for longevity.As designers and engineers, there is a unique elegance and challenge to perfecting our products. Our curiosity and play instinct always bring us new ideas and approaches to optimally place our bikes in modern society. Our aim is to get our customers to enjoy their Schindelhauer bike for a long time so that they want to ride it often – it’s much easier to get around town anyway on a bike than in a car!
